Northern Lights

Where and when can you see the northern lights? It depends on where you are: in Iceland and northern Norway a clear, dark night is often enough, while in Belgium you need a strong solar storm.

These guides explain the best time to go, the best places to look and the Kp index you need: northern lights in Iceland, northern lights in Norway and northern lights in Belgium.

Whatever your destination, the aurora is hard to predict by eye. Aurora Live is a free iPhone app that shows the real-time chance of seeing the northern lights at your location and sends a push alert when activity rises. Download Aurora Live on the App Store and never miss a clear night.
